Mount Meru is an active stratovolcano located 70 kilometres west of Mount Kilimanjaro. At a height of 4,566 meters (14,980 ft), it is still visible from Mont Kilimanjaro on a clear day. It is the fifth highest mountain in Africa. Mont Meru is the topographic centerpiece of Arusha National Park. Its fertile slopes rise above the surrounding savanna and support a forest that host diverse wildlife, including nearly 400 species of birds and also monkeys. Mount Meru seams to be small but very challenging that its sister Kilimanjaro due to its steep and rocks during climbing.

After breakfast and at around 08:00 am, you will drive to Momella Gate on the slopes of Mount Meru. On arrival you will finalize the climb formalities including registrations. With your mountain guide, porters and cook, you will start the climb up. The track passes open grassland, providing an opportunity to see buffalo, warthogs and other grazers. The trail continues as a steady climb through forest. After lunch, the route continues through less dense forest, where there are an abundance of birds and black and white colobus monkeys. Dinner & overnight stay at Miriakamba Hut. * L. D.
After breakfast, continue with the trekking crossing the steepest and most demanding section of climb up to Saddle Hut for lunch. You slowly ascend through lush forest to reach the halfway point of Elephant Ridge. From here you will enjoy excellent views of the summit ridge and across the crater floor. Arrive there in good time for lunch. Afternoon, optional climb to the Little Meru at 3,830 meters. Dinner and overnight stay at Saddle Hut. * B. L. D.
Early departure for the summit at around 02:30 am. With your mountain guide / ranger, you will start the final climb to reach Cobra Point (4,350 m) at sunrise. The views are stunning: the cliffs of the Crater rim, the Ash Cone rising from the Crater floor, Kilimanjaro floating on the morning clouds and west towards the Rift Valley (if the weather is clear). On arrival at the top, you will take pictures and thereafter descend down to Saddle Hut for breakfast/brunch. Then continue descend down via Miriakamba Hut to Momela Gate.
